Converting a Study into a Nursery

Westside Remodeling

When a new baby is on the way and space within the home is limited, converting the study into a nursery is a great option to consider, giving you the room that you need. At first, it may be difficult to envision the study as an adorable, cozy nursery, but once you stir up your imagination juices, you’ll be able to see just how easy it can be.

Start the project by hiring reputable remodeling contractors who can answer any questions that you have, assist you in coming up with a design, obtain the proper building permits, and implement all the necessary changes to the study, creating the perfect nursery for your little one. One of the first changes that you may want to consider is the construction of one or more closets. Most studies come with four walls and no closet space. The closet is absolutely necessary, especially if you intend for your child to continue using the room as she matures.

If your study currently includes a fireplace, your contractor can close it up properly. Additionally, you may want to consider adding or eliminating alcoves in the room in order to give you the kind of space that you want to have in the nursery. Don’t forget that any of the existing features in the study can be converted easily through the skills of an experienced contractor. If you aren’t sure what you want to do, ask for suggestions and move on from those as a starting point.

Safety Features for a Converted Nursery

Make sure the remodeling contractor is aware of any safety features that you want to incorporate into the nursery. Child resistant windows and screens with locking capabilities are an absolute necessity for a nursery. Additionally, you may want to include surge protection, a smoke/carbon monoxide alarm, and electrical outlet covers, especially if any of these aren’t already present. Have your contractor check the existing wiring to ensure that it is in proper working order. Soft carpeting might be the best choice for flooring since it provides a safe landing to protect those precious knees once your little one begins to walk.
